From Seed to Harvest: Back to the Basics
Tuesday July 22, 2025 2:10pm - 2:55pm CDT
In this session you will hear how we took a theme and connected it to everything we did at the school with the staff, students and community. We began with a goal of helping our families in a food scarcity area with creating an urban garden using raised beds across the campus. This sparked a focus on cultivating our garden with connections to a Master Gardener from our local community. She showed our students how to grow produce in our afterschool program with activities as making preserves, butter, using the vegetables to make a stir fry, growing herbs , etc. This initiative has grown to include a hydroponics that was sponsored by one of our faith based partners. Our goal is to one day be able to generate enough produce to have our students sell at the local flea market while learning other entreprenuership skills. I will share resources on how you can create this type of hands on learning initiative through grants and partnerships.

Let’s take a look” This session would also showcase how Mystery Writing has embedded best practices for supporting ALL students as writers.
